For the last seven years we’ve been growing and improving our production so that we can bring you affordable, fresh, healthy organic and natural local food each and every week of the year. What you may not know is we’ve been doing all this on rented land, which creates significant obstacles to long-term sustainability.
We want to be the best small organic family farm we can be, the farm that we have purchased has many amazing properties, not the least of which is a large greenhouse complex which will offer us an amazing opportunity to expand. This heated greenhouse space also needs a lot of TLC if we are going to get it going for September first move in date. We will be fixing it up from March 1st-September 1st while we continue to grow food and bring it to you from our current location. We will need to fix plastic on the roofs and make repairs to the infrastructure such as heaters, fans, and watering lines throughout the greenhouses. We will also need to bring in Certified Organic soil and materials to build raised beds to grow our fall and winter baby greens. Then we will need to plant in those beds and wait for them to grow. They will also require watering every day while they are growing so we will need to add team members to our crew for the new location.
A permanent home will allow us to grow certified organic food for you year-round in a much more sustainable way by enabling us to invest in permanent infrastructure thereby using less energy and resources.
You’ve probably heard of an old-fashioned barn raising. That’s where a community comes together to help a farmer raise a barn. A ‘Farm Raising’ is very similar – it’s where the local community comes together to pitch in and help a small organic family farm raise the money needed to purchase a rural property suitable for organic farming.
